Tuesday action

What you missed, in a nutshell:

- Yeah, so El Duque's been pretty good, right? Not so much here. Braves def. Mets 13-5.

- Jake Peavy + 4 Padres homeruns = Win. Padres def. Dodgers 9-4.

- A-Rod didn't hit a homer. Slacker. I guess Giambi's grand slam will have to make up for it. Yankees def. Blue Jays 9-2

- Justin Maxwell got his first major league hit. Oh yeah, and it was a grand slam. But DC still lost. Something seems unfair about that. Marlins def. Nationals 13-8

- So, Victor Santos really turned things around for the Orioles... Angels def. Orioles 10-5

Other results of note: Rangers def. Tigers [Game 1] (13-6), Tigers def. Rangers [Game 2] (4-1), Rockies def. Phillies (8-2), Brewers def. Pirates (6-1), Reds def. Cardinals (7-2), Astros def. Cubs (5-4), A's def. Mariners (7-4), Giants def. Diamondbacks (2-1)

As for tomorrow, the abbreviated version...

RHP John Maine (14-9, 3.80 ERA) and the Mets take on RHP John Smoltz (13-7, 3.02 ERA).

RHP Justin Germano (7-9, 4.38 ERA) and the Padres take on RHP Derek Lowe (11-12, 3.80 ERA) and the Dodgers.

RHP Mike Mussina (8-10, 5.51 ERA) makes his return to the starting rotation for the Yankees and takes on RHP Dustin McGowan (10-8, 3.90 ERA) and the Blue Jays.

RHP Joel Hanrahan (4-3, 5.63 ERA) and the Nationals take on RHP Byung-Hyun Kim (9-6, 5.47 ERA) and the Marlins.

RHP Daniel Cabrera (9-15, 5.11 ERA) and the Orioles take on RHP Kelvim Escobar (16-7, 3.04 ERA)

Other games of note:
Brewers @ Pirates (Bush vs. Gorzelanny)
Rockies @ Phillies (Bautista vs. Kendrick)
Rangers @ Tigers (Volquez vs. Verlander)
Cardinals @ Reds (Reyes vs. Arroyo)
Cubs @ Astros (Hill vs. Albers)
A's @ Mariners (Haren vs. Batista)
Diamondbacks @ Giants (Webb vs. Sanchez)

Pitching match-up of Wednesday would look to go to John Maine vs. John Smoltz in that Mets-Braves series. Huge game for the Braves, who are trying not to fall out of the Wild Card race. Cy Young candidates Kelvim Escobar and Brandon Webb are also in action.

News: Roger Clemens is apparently set to pitch against the Red Sox on Sunday. He received two cortisone shots in his elbow last week. There is ligament damage, but he will attempt to pitch through it. ... Not sure if I mentioned this earlier, but Erik Bedard has been officially shut down for 2007. He was placed on the 60-day DL to make room for Victor Zambrano on the 40-man roster. It also appears that Jeremy Guthrie is done for the season, after leaving a game a few days ago with a strained left oblique. Those darn obliques again. ... Carlos Delgado is now expected to miss the Mets' entire homestand with a strained right hip flexor.
